Large-Format Additive Manufacturing with Scalable Support for Prototyping and Production
At Essex Bay Engineering, 3D printing plays a core role in our end-to-end manufacturing workflow. Our in-house additive manufacturing cell supports both large and small format printing, allowing us to quickly prototype, fabricate production-ready components, and create complex tooling elements for use in CNC, wiring, and assembly operations.
At the heart of this capability is the Modix Big 180X, a large-format FDM machine with a build volume of 1800 × 600 × 600 mm. This system enables us to produce full-scale prototypes, lightweight structures, and nested batch runs of smaller components with exceptional dimensional reliability. To support smaller-scale jobs, we also operate two QIDI i-Fast printers, ideal for high-resolution, dual-material printing on compact parts and functional prototypes.
Equipment Overview
- Modix Big 180X: 1800 × 600 × 600 mm build volume, dual printhead (multi-color or dissolvable support), carbon-reinforced PLA and other FDM filaments
- QIDI i-Fast (×2): Enclosed, dual-extruder printers for smaller parts using ABS, PETG, PVA, and engineering-grade filaments
